Arturo's Market

Arturo’s Market is well known in New Edinburgh for its awesome Italian fare. I’ve read plenty of positive reviews and have been craving a meal there for ages. The only problem: Gluten, as always.

Well, no longer!

A few weeks ago, Arturo’s introduced gluten-free pizza and pasta to their menu! Hooray! I’ve since visited them twice for dinner – once for pizza and once for pasta. On my first visit, I had a Nonna Teresa pizza, which was roasted red peppers, artichokes and goat cheese on a tasty thin crust. It was REALLY good!! I actually found Arturo’s pizza crust to be better than the one at La Dolce Vita on Preston Street.

Upon my second visit, I tried pasta in a tomato sauce with veggies. It, too, was quite good! The sauce was well-crafted and flavourful, and especially delicious with a dusting of parmesan on top. The pasta appeared to be corn-based. It was al dente (a good thing), but somewhat cracked apart under tooth instead of being more yielding like traditional gluten-filled pasta. But, that is typical with corn pasta, and it didn’t bother me too much. All in all, I really enjoyed my meal!

I also tried both a caprese and greek salad over my visits. Both were made with crisp lettuce and fresh veggies. Yum!

Arturo’s is small and cozy with friendly, relaxed service. I felt comfortable there right away! It would make a nice lunch spot, but also a great place for a date with someone cute. I give it a thumbs up!
