I’m not sure how long this beer has been available in Ottawa, but I came across it for the first time about a month ago at the LCBO on Rideau Street. I grabbed a 6-pack, and was quickly on my way! I just couldn’t wait to compare it to La Messagère, which has become somewhat of a staple at parties lately.
I found New Grist to be really tasty, and somewhat tangier than La Messagère. A nice alternative to mix things up a bit! My BF definitely prefers New Grist, but I think I am partial to La Messagère, myself. To me, it just seems a bit smoother, and since I’ve never been much of a beer connoisseur, it is more to my taste.
I also recently tested out “Perry”, which is like Strongbow Cider, but made with pears. Go figure! So far, I’ve seen it at both the LCBO in the Rideau Centre and the one on Rideau Street, though I am sure it is available at most locations. It was not too sweet, and had a really nice flavour. Easy drinking, to be sure. Plus, I’ve noticed that a couple new brands of cider have also hit the shelves lately. Yey!
I tried Grist and found it horrible. It tasted like the bottom 1/8th of a homemade beer.
ReplyDeleteI really like Greens' beers. You can get them in Vancouver at Firefly beer store on Cambie. The blond is incredibly good, but it's $8.50 for a pint bottle! :(
